We learned the square dance because it is the official nation dance. It is important to know the dance because not only is it part of where we live but its part of us and who we are. Its a very fun entertaining dance everyone should know. The square dance was originally invented in the 16th century.
The square dance needs 4 pairs of 2 in each "square". The dance consist of these following steps Bowing to partner and your corner, promenade, swinging partner, circling to the left and right, allemande etc... The caller in the dance is a person who is responsible for calling out the steps to the dancers. It is important to know the number as a couple to make things more easier and less complicated for you and the rest of the group. Knowing the names of each dance move is also very important that way you don't get anyone else confused, the dance will also look more neat than for this who don't know the names of the moves.
My experience on learning the square dance is pretty fun. I didn't really know anyone in my group except couple on people. At first no one in my group talked to each other we were all awkward. After a while we started to try and learn the dance but it was very sloppy and everyone was confused. We then began speaking and trying to help one another and after going over the dance a couple of times we got the hang of it and it came out pretty good. After the dance my group didn't really talk to each other because we were never really making up conversations other than questions about the dance.
In conclusion the whole square dance can be easily taught and learned. It is the nations dance and its very fun once you get the hang of it. Anyone at any age can dance this dance.
